Microfilms

Most popular during the 20th century, microfilm was used to store large amounts of information in a small space, making it suitable for preserving historical records, legal documents, and other valuable materials. A single page on microfilm is typically 1/25th the size of the original document, making it possible to store thousands of pages on a single reel. Unfortunately, this form of data preservation is not safe from deterioration and damage, and without proper machinery, microfilm cannot be read.

Here at Irving Collection, we understand the importance and value of not losing such records. We use specialised machinery and AI software which scan and digitise such film, ensuring that the data stored on them is preserved and is in a format which can be easily accessed.

Professional microfilm scanning and digitising – securely package and send us your microfilms by post. We will scan the film, providing you with a pdf file of the contents and safely ship your microfilms back to you.
Renting of our microfilm digitising equipment and software for personal use – we will provide you with a seminar and guide on how to use the equipment, and help set it up at your location. Available only for locations in London.

Negative Photography

Negative photography works by capturing an inverted image on light-sensitive film, where light areas appear dark and dark areas appear light. These negatives could then be used to produce multiple positive prints on photographic paper. However, film negatives are prone to deterioration over time due to factors like humidity, temperature fluctuations, and chemical instability, and they are increasingly difficult to view or digitise without specialised machinery such as enlargers or dedicated scanners.

We offer the opportunity to take your negatives into the 21st century by offering services to make your valuable family photographs last indefinitely:

Scanning of negatives to convert them into digital images – securely package and send us your negatives by post. We will scan and provide you with digital files in your chosen image format. Optional retouching, colourisation or AI upscaling of your photos for an additional fee.
Renting of our negatives scanner and software – we will provide you with a seminar and guide on how to use the equipment, and help set it up at your location. Available only for locations in London.

AI Translation and Analysis Services

Using the latest breakthrough in AI technology, we can translate documents from almost any language into another, even those hand-written rather than typed. Just provide us with a clear scan or photo of the document you need translated, and we will use the latest software to interpret the text. Whilst we cannot guarantee 100% accuracy, particularly for interpretation of handwriting, our system delivers highly reliable translations which are then checked for clarity. This allows us to offer fast, affordable, and accessible translation service for both modern and historical documents.

We also offer AI-powered document analysis services, designed to categorise data, providing detailed examinations or concise overview of the contents, and extract key information into clear, easy to follow formats. This service is particularly useful for large collections of documents, where manually reading and searching would be extremely time-consuming to go through yourself.
